Last week was a whirlwind week for the Cooperative Research Centre for National Plant Biosecurity.
Migration of Lettuce Aphid in Australia
Currant-Lettuce aphid (CLA), Nasonovia ribis-nigri, migrated from New Zealand to Tasmania on low-level jet streams in January 2004 and rapidly spread throughout Australia. Like many small winged insects, aphids migrate predominantly via wind and human activity. The distance of their dispersal is influenced by many factors including temperature and weather events.

Attend Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) workshop in Perth to contribute to the workshop outcomes, develop networks and discussed potential future project collaborations. In addition I presented examples of PDA's used for agricultural research within DPI&F and provide input and technical advice to advance the use of PDAs in the CRC.

Rust pathogen risks
A sub-committee of members of the Australian Cereal Rust Control Program consultative committee including Dr Rob Loughman DAFWA, Prof Rob Park University of Sydney and Dr Rohan Rainbow GRDC Manager Crop Protection have met several times since March 2008 to discuss the need for improved communication of rust pathogen biosecurity threats.
New CRC website
After months of planning, preparing and producing - the CRC's new website is finally live! This project has taken a considerable amount of time, and I thank everyone who has helped me to bring it to this stage. Our web-developers, BoaB Interactive, have done a fabulous job with design and layout and helped us think outside the square in the way we presented our project information.
