Collins

Dr Pat Collins is the Leader of the Post-Harvest Integrity Research Program for the Cooperative Research Centre for National Plant Biosecurity.  Pat is a Senior Principal Entomologist with the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFFQld) and is stationed at the Ecosciences Precinct in Brisbane.

 

In addition to his duties with the CRCNPB, Pat leads the DAFFQld Postharvest Grain Protection Unit. With more than 20 years experience with the post-harvest sector of grain industry provides Pat with a broad knowledge and understanding of the industry in Australia and overseas. He has published widely in the areas of stored grain entomology and has a special interest in development of strategies to manage insect resistance to phosphine fumigant and other grain protection chemicals.

 

Pat has been consultant and leader of multiple national and international research and training projects in grain protection, and has been recognised internationally with numerous invitations to speak and chair sessions at international conferences. He has undertaken several international consultancies and organised national and international conferences.

 

Pat represents Australia on the International Committee of International Working Conferences on Stored Product Protection and is Convener of the National Working Party on Grain Protection.  He contributes actively to the promotion of scientific excellence for the benefit of the grain industry through activities such as supervision of students and reviews of scientific journal papers and chemical registrations.
