Dominie is a Plant Pathologist with the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA ) in a number of roles. These roles include the provision of a diagnostic service to the growers of Western Australia, including seed health testing for the export market. Dominie also provides training courses to both agribusiness consultants and staff within DAFWA on disease identification in broadacre crops. When she is not doing the above activities Dominie has been working on and involved in the diagnostic methodology development for the identification of Tilletia indica.
Dominie has a very broad background in plant pathology (mycology and bacteriology) for both broadacre and horticultural crops. She has been involved in developing two National Contingency plans for exotic plant pathogens, Tilletia indica and Tilletia contraversa. Dominie found these challenging but enjoyed bringing practical solutions together with the science.
Dominie joined DAFWA in 1997 after working as a vegetable pathologist in Queensland for seven years. Whilst in Queensland, Dominie obtained her Master degree in Agricultural Science specialising in Plant Pathology. Currently Dominie is completing a post-graduate Diploma in Education specialising in adult and tertiary education, as she has a strong interest in how plant pathology is being taught.
